Narrows Strut Busters - Scholarship & Teaching

Welcome to Narrows Strut Busters - A Washington Chapter of the NWTF

At the National Wild Turkey Federation, there are more benefits going out to youth than just the pride of conserving the American wild turkey. Scholarship money is also available. Students can compete at the local level for college scholarships sponsored by the NWTF. But it doesn't stop there. All students receiving local scholarships have the opportunity to compete for a state/provincial chapter funded $1,000 state/provincial scholarship. State/provincial chapter winners will compete for a $10,000 national scholarship. Eligibility information for recipients and deadlines for each phase of the process are included with the scholarship application packets. Information packets will be sent to interested chapters each year. These scholarships are set up to ensure the NWTF has the dedicated conservationists needed for the future and is a part of the NWTF's Five-Star program. Applicants for the scholarship are judged on their scholastic achievements, leadership abilities, community involvement and commitment to conservation. "Supporting our children's education through this scholarship program is just one way the NWTF can ensure we have the dedicated conservationists needed for the future," said the NWTF's CEO Rob Keck. The "Narrows Strut Buster’s" are pleased to announce their plan to offer local scholarship. This will be available to a graduating senior at a West Puget Sound High School. Applications must be received from West Puget Sound High School graduating seniors by January 1st each year to be eligible for the Narrows Strut Busters Chapter’s scholarship.

Recognizing that a lasting positive impact on natural resources requires strong educational outreach efforts, the National Wild Turkey Federation developed the Wild About Turkey Education Box. More and more young people than ever are learning about one of the greatest wildlife conservation success stories of all time through this one-of-a-kind educational tool. The education box is a direct result of requests from educators across North America looking for a resource to use in their classrooms during Thanksgiving. The NWTF went one step further: They created a tool that can be used in classrooms year-round. The award-winning Wild About Turkey Education Box contains:

  • a colorful bulletin board display
  • "Return of the Wild Turkey" and "Roll Call" video
  • a multimedia CD/CD-Rom with turkey sounds, NWTF Wildlife Bulletins, Activities and much more!
  • a fun anatomical wild turkey poster
  • a Making Tracks poster
  • K-12 multi-curriculum lesson plans - including math, science, history, English, creative writing, technology/design, and art
  • The above items are contained in a trap and transfer box similar to the ones wildlife biologists use to transfer turkeys

Education Boxes also containing 30 JAKES pencils, rulers and bookmarks. This educational tool exposes children to the joy of natural resources like the wild turkey and the importance of managing this resource properly to insure it is available for generations to come. The "Narrows Strut Buster’s" are pleased to announce that they have some education boxes available for teacher’s that want to teach local school children this amazing conservation success story.
